We are so excited to show you what we are building for all of us!
The Stanley Wilson Park Pool circa 1980
Coming soon!
This project, and many like it are born from necessity. While the old outdoor pool had a hand in creating many fond memories for our youth and our young-at-heart, it was time for a replacement. From incessant water leakage, unavoidable aging of the locker room facilities, and the inability of the old pool to meet current State Health Department standards, it was inevitable that this landmark of our community needed to be replaced by something modern.
We are going to build something that our community can be proud of, use, and enjoy for many years to come. We want the families in our community to stay here for their summer pool recreation, and to enjoy all the benefits of our new facility. In addition to this beautiful swimming pool, there will be an entry side for younger children and those with other physical challenges into a shallow three-foot end, and a "frog slide" that the kids can enjoy, all in a shallower, separated from the rest of the pool by a wall and a gate. The deeper end will have amenities (budget and generosity permitting) of a diving board, vortex slide, and a climbing wall. There will also be something for even the youngest of our walking toddlers: a splash pad. In addition to these amenities, the new bath house will have two separate locker rooms as before, and office for lifeguards, and a mechanical room.
According to our general contractor, the pool project is slated for completion in the early fall of 2023. Depending on a number of things such as weather, material availability, etc., that date could easily fluctuate. We will see some completions (and early wins!) before this winter, as the splash pad area and building are set to be complete so work can begin on the inside of the building throughout our coldest months. The actual pool and deck area surrounding the pool will not be started until spring 2023
The total estimated cost for our new facility will be $4.2 million. This can fluctuate as well, depending greatly on material costs and unforeseen challenges like our recent battle with soil contamination. Our funding sources for this construction are grants, donations (Click HERE to donate), fundraisers, and our no-interest loan from the City of Stanley. This is all in addition to the monies received by the Park District for mill levy dollars, and from allocations from the city sales tax (Please SHOP LOCAL! Your tax dollars help more than you know!).
In addition to having a pool for our citizens to enjoy in the summers, we want to build something that this community can be proud of. We want to keep our families in the community and attract those from out-of-town to enjoy our pool with its enhanced recreational offerings. Staying active is important for our health, and the pool is a great place to do this, as well as the opportunity to socialize with friends and neighbors. The Stanley Park District has also had a proud history of being a summer employer for countless youths across the years, and we also want to continue this tradition. Lastly, but certainly not least, we need to remember that when people visit our town to enjoy our pool, we hope they'll stop for lunch, shop Stanley merchants, fill up at our gas stations, and take in the rest of the wonderful things that Stanley has to offer.
Please consider donating to our project by reviewing the resources below this section. Shop local, support our parks, speak well of this project, and perhaps volunteer if you are so moved. It takes a huge amount of effort to make a project like this come together, and if we can afford to give a little, we can get a lot!
We get so much more out of life when we give of ourselves. This project will succeed with the help of our friends and neighbors who choose to give of themselves, or their finances to improve our community. Our pool project is the latest improvement that we're undertaking to strengthen our community. Please click the button below for our donation page, and to find out more about giving.
